At Greenfield we know how important it is for children to lead healthy lifestyles and we have a strong vision for this.
This vision includes:
- the ability for pupils to achieve and challenge their personal best
- the chance for pupils to enjoy and have a positive attitude towards physical activity
- the chance for pupils to develop the initial stages of a lifelong love of sport and physical activity
- A disposition to be kind
Every age group from nursery to year 6 has regular PE lessons with our sports coaches that will cover a variety of different sport, keeping in line with the national curriculum.
Our sports coaches are Mr Bradley Deeney and Mr Kyle Davis and they are supported by Mr Ben Roberts who is our Regional P.E. Co-ordinator.
Each class gets two lessons of PE each week, with one being core skill based (balance and co-ordination) and the other being game based. Some of the sports being covered in game based PE Lessons are:
- Cross country
- Health and fitness
- Agility, Balance, Coordination (ABCs)
As well as regular PE Lessons, we offer a variety of after school sports clubs throughout the year. These will be open to all abilities and those who choose to come will also have the chance to represent the school at tournaments. Some of the sports on offer are:
- Tag rugby
UKSA Sailing Trip
The academy; supported by the academy sponsor, also offers the opportunity for all pupils in Year 5 and 6 to take part in an amazing residential trip to the Isle of Wight, to take part in a range of water sports, including kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming. This is held at the UK Sailing Academy, which is based in Cowes, the home of British sailing.
Fully qualified instructors support all of these activities, although our own staff also take part. Feedback from both those members of staff who have attended and our pupils is always positive and they really do have so much fun.
Using our sports premium funding, we take all children from KS2 swimming for a complete term at a time on a weekly basis. The children are taken by coach and have their lessons at Henbury Leisure Centre and a member of staff and first aider always attends. At the end of each term, those children who have completed their swimming assessments, will be awarded with a certificate to show how far they can swim unaided.
